    [Objectives] To make an evaluation of the efficacy and safety of Biyuan Tongqiao Granule in the treatment of chronic sinusitis in children, and provide evidence-based medical reference for clinical use. [Methods] Databases such as Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System(SinoMed), China Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang Digital Journal Full-text Database(WF), VIP Database(VIP), EmBase, PubMed, Science Direct, and Cochrane Library were used to collect the clinical randomized controlled trials of Biyuan Tongqiao Granule in children with chronic sinusitis published since the creation of databases. The quality of the included literature was evaluated and the data were extracted. The data was analyzed using Review Manager 5.3 software for meta-analysis, and descriptive analysis was performed for studies that could not be combined. The GRADE method was applied to evaluate the quality of evidence. [Results] A total of 12 studies were included, including 1 645 cases of patients. The analysis results show that compared with the control group, Biyuan Tongqiao Granule has an excellent curative effect on children with chronic sinusitis and has a lower incidence of adverse reactions. The GRADE evidence level indicated that the sinus CT scan lesion score was intermediate evidence, and the visual analog score, endoscopic mucosal morphology score, and total effective rate were low-level evidence. [Conclusions] Biyuan Tongqiao Granule has a significant effect in treating chronic sinusitis in children and does not increase the incidence of adverse reactions, but its efficacy and safety need support of more high-quality studies.

  • Discussion on the Quality Evaluation Method of Traditional Chinese Medicine Compound Preparations

    Jie LIANG;Yushan ZHOU;Chenxi XIN;Chuanchuan YANG;Jinyu WEI;Dongfang HUANG;Lichun ZHAO;

    As an important representative of the modernization of the Chinese medicine industry, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) compound preparations are an indispensable part of the development of TCM. The complex ingredients and unclear action mechanism of TCM compound preparations restrict the development of TCM. In line with this problem, the modern TCM research has made extensive remarkable achievements. From the single indicator in the past to multiple indicator, the research on the combination of TCM fingerprints and pharmacodynamics also has made great progress. The introduction of quality evaluation methods such as the "quantitative analysis of multi-components by a single marker", "dose-effect" indicator, "Bioactive Equivalent Combinatorial Components"(BECCs) and TCM quality markers have brought new ideas for quality control of TCM compound preparations.

    Yanfang FAN;Xiaoli YAN;Zhuoya JIA;Kaihang SHI;Kai CAO;

    [Objectives] To investigate whether paeonol(Pae) combined with panax notoginseng saponins(PNS) can protect the myocardium of rats with diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM) through improving the antioxidant capacity of the rats by activating the Nrf2/ARE pathway. [Methods] The rats were fed with high-fat and high-sugar diet for 6 weeks, and combined with intraperitoneal injection of small-dose STZ to build a type II diabetes model; the model rats were randomly divided into a model group, a Pae group of 80 mg/kg, and a PNS group of 100 mg/kg, a Pae 80 mg/kg+PNS 100 mg/kg, and a metformin group 157.5 mg/kg; rats of normal group and model group were injected with an equal volume of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose(1%), 10 rats in each group. After 8 weeks, 3 rats in the model group were taken for histopathological examination. Changes in myocardial fibrosis and myocardial collagen formation indicated that the building of DCM model was successful. qRT-PCR and Western blot were used to detect the expression levels of Nrf2, HO-1, Col-I, and Col-III in myocardial tissue of each group of rats. [Results] Compared with the normal group, the mRNA and protein expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 in myocardial tissue of the DCM group rats were significantly reduced, and the mRNA and protein expression levels of Col-I and Col-III were significantly increased; compared with the DCM group, the mRNA and protein expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 in the myocardial tissue of each drug group increased to varying degrees, and the combined drug group increased more significantly than that of the single drug group; the mRNA and protein expression levels of Col-I and Col-III were reduced to varying degrees, and the combined drug group declined more significantly than that of the single drug group. [Conclusions] Paeonol combined with panax notoginseng saponins can up-regulate the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 in myocardial tissue, inhibit the expression of type I and type III collagen. The mechanism may be related to improving the DCM myocardial fibrosis through activating the Nrf2/ARE pathway.

    Ying HAO;Hongwei ZHONG;Yuanyun GU;Hui CHEN;

    [Objectives] This study aimed to study the effects of Shenge Yifei capsule on the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway in rats with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD). [Methods] Ten rats were randomly selected as the control group, and the other 40 rats were selected for modeling by fumigation combined with Klebsiella pneumoniae infection. A total of 38 rats were successfully modeled. They were randomly divided into model group(8 rats), low-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group(10 rats), high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group(10 rats) and theophylline group(10 rats) in accordance with the principle of half male and half female. The rats in the model and control groups were given with distilled water by gavage, and the rats in the drug administration groups were given with corresponding drugs. The TGF-β1 level in the serum, and the expression levels of TGF-β1, Smad2, Smad3 and Smad7 and TGF-β1, Smad3 and Smad7 in airway tissues were detected. [Results] After 12 weeks, the serum TGF-β1 levels of the theophylline group and high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group were lower than that of the low-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group(P<0.05). The expression levels of TGF-β1 and Smad3 in the theophylline group and high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group were lower than that in the low-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group(P<0.05). The expression levels of TGF-β1 and Smad3 in the high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group were lower than those in the low-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group and theophylline group(P<0.05). The expression levels of Smad7 and the proteins in the model group were lower than those in the other groups(P<0.05). The expression levels of Smad7 in the theophylline group and high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group were higher than that in the low-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group(P<0.05). After 18 weeks, no significant difference was found in serum TGF-β1 level among the theophylline group and low and high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule groups(P>0.05). The expression levels of Smad7 and the proteins in the model group were lower than those in the other groups. The expression level of Smad7 in the high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule group was lower than that in the theophylline group(P<0.05). [Conclusions] Shenge Yifei capsule can regulate the TGF-β1/Smads signaling pathway. They can down-regulate the expression of TGF-β1, Smad2 and Smad3 and up-regulate the expression of Smad7, reducing the degree of airway modeling, delaying the development of COPD disease. Conventional high-dose Shenge Yifei capsule is more effective in inhibiting the expression of Smad2.

  • Protective Effect and Action Mechanism of Modified Ershiwuwei Songshi Pills on Chronic Liver Injury Induced by CCL_4

    Xican MA;Shuai YANG;Ke BA;Zhilong SHI;Jian GU;

    [Objectives] To study the protective effect of Ershiwuwei Songshi Pills on chronic liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCL_4) in rats before and after the modification conforming to the compatibility theory of Tibetan medicine, and to explore its action mechanism. [Methods] Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into the blank control group, model group, Hugan tablets group(0.490 g/kg), Ershiwuwei Songshi Pills group(0.117 g/kg), and Modified Ershiwuwei Songshi Pills group(removing cinnabaris, Aristolochia contorta, and Aconitum naviculare, 0.105 g/kg). Except the blank group, the remaining groups were injected subcutaneously with 20% carbon tetrachloride olive oil solution every 3 d, and modeled for 6 weeks. During this time, intragastrically administered corresponding drugs. Six weeks later, blood was taken from the femoral artery, and the rats were killed through dislocating the cervical spine, the liver was taken, and the content of aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) was determined. Then, liver fibrosis indicators tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB), interleukin-6(IL-6) and interleukin-1β(IL-1β) were detected by immunohistochemical method. [Results] Compared with the model group, the pathological map of the liver section showed that liver injury was improved in each administration group. The serum ALT and AST contents in rats of each administration group were significantly reduced(P<0.05), and the protein expressions of NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 in liver tissue were also reduced by varying degrees(P<0.05). [Conclusions] Ershiwuwei Songshi Pills and its modification group have a protective effect on liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride. The modified prescription conforms to the compatibility rules of Tibetan medicine. The mechanism may be related to reducing the damage caused by inflammatory factors through regulating the role of inflammatory signaling pathway. Thus, it can be used as a reference for future optimization proposals.

  • Effects of Losartan on Cell Apoptosis and Expression of Caspase-3 and JNK Proteins in Kidney Tissue in Renal Interstitial Fibrosis Rats

    Lu BIAN;Chunhua LUO;Weifeng FENG;

    [Objectives] To investigate the effects of losartan on cell apoptosis and the expression of caspase-3 and JNK proteins in kidney tissue in the adenine-induced renal fibrosis rats. [Methods] Thirty Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group(n=10), model group(n=10) and losartan group(n=10). The rats in the control group received saline, while those in the model group and losartan group both received adenine by gavage, for 21 d. After the renal interstitial fibrosis model was established, the rats in the losartan group were treated with losartan[10 mg/(kg·d)], while the rats in the control group and the model group rats were administered with the same amount of saline. The course of treatment was 30 d. Finally, the renal function, blood urea nitrogen(BUN), serum creatinine(Scr), creatinine clearance rate(Ccr) and the pathological morphology of the rats were detected. The apoptosis of renal tubular epithelial cells was tested by TUNEL. The caspase-3 and JNK protein expression was tested by Western blotting. [Results] After administering adenine for 21 d, the BUN, 24 MTP and kidney/body weight in the model group were increased, significantly higher than the control group(P<0.01), and the Ccr was remarkably decreased(P<0.01), signifying that the renal interstitial fibrosis model was successfully built. After treating with losartan for 30 d, the Scr, BUN, and 24 MTP were significantly decreased(P<0.01), and the Ccr was significantly increased in the losartan group(P<0.01). In addition, in comparison to the model group, renal tubular epithelial apoptosis was decreased and caspase-3 and JNK expression was downregulated in the losartan group(P<0.05). [Conclusions] Losartan can reduce the adenine-induced elevation of Scr, BUN and 24 hMPT, increase Ccr, improve general condition of renal interstitial fibrosis in rats and ameliorate the progression of chronic kidney failure(CKD). The effectiveness of losartan is probably due to its ability to regulate caspase-3, JNK protein expression and attenuate renal cell apoptosis.

    Shuxian XIAO;Zhaoxia SONG;Yuqiang FANG;Xufeng WANG;Feihe LI;Zhenhong LEI;Yulong WANG;

    [Objectives] To study the effects of different storage methods and storage time on the quality of Codonopsis pilosula. [Methods] Experiment was performed by setting three different storage methods and times. [Results] When stored for 12 months, the extract content in the natural storage, conventional sealing, and controlled atmosphere storage was slightly lower than 77.32% before storage, and decreased by 2.82%, 3.62%, and 1.71%, respectively. When stored for 18 months, the extract content was 74.14%, 73.21%, and 72.08%, decreased by 4.11%, 5.31%, and 6.78%, respectively compared with that before storage, all of which met the specified content in Chinese Pharmacopoeia. [Conclusions] The three storage times had significant effects on moisture and extract content of C. pilosula, but had no significant effects on atractylenolide III. With the extension of storage time, the moisture, extract, and content declined, so the storage time theoretically should not exceed 12 months.

    Die FU;Shiqiong LUO;Zhannan YANG;Yuanshuai WANG;Haitao YE;

    [Objectives] To understand the content changes of fatty acid compositions and seedling growths during seed germinations of Cassia obtusifolia L. [Methods] The fatty acid compositions of germinations and seedling growths of C. obtusifolia seeds treated with different concentrations of gibberellin(GA_3) and naphthalene acetic acid(NAA) were analyzed using gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer(GC-MS), and the germination rates, root lengths, plant heights and fresh weights of their seedlings were analyzed. [Results] The contents of eicosenoic acid, α-linoleic acid, arachidic acid, eicosadienoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid of C. obtusifolia seeds treated with different concentrations of GA_3 and NAA decreased with germination time. There were significant differences between the ratios of germinations of C. obtusifolia seeds treated with different concentrations of GA_3 and NAA. GA_3 and NAA of different ratio treatments could promote seedling heights and fresh weights of C.obtusifolia, but increases of seedling heights and fresh weights were different. Eicosenoic acid, α-linoleic acid, arachidic acid, eicosadienoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid were remarkably negative correlation with seedling heights and fresh weights. [Conclusions] The fatty acid components of C. obtusifolia seed germination and growth of their seedlings were affected. It indicated that GA_3 and NAA treatments can affect fatty acid metabolism, the germination rates, root lengths, plant heights and fresh weights of C. obtusifolia. It is intended to provide a theoretical basis and technological reference for standardized cultivated techniques of C. obtusifolia.
